"The Analects of Confucius",is one of the most important Confucian literature, whose ideology occupies an important position in the history of Chinese Ideology.Therefore, there are innumerable scholars who annotate for"The Analects"in each dynasty. Among them, JiZhu of the Analects by Zhuxi and ZhengYi of the Analects by LiuBaonan are the most famous works which can be called the models of the notes for the Analects.Zhu Xi is a world-well known principle scientist and explainer. His ancestral home is in Wuyuan, Jiangxi Province. He was born in 1130A.D., and died in 1200 A.D.. Zhuxi annotated a lot of literature during his life time, and left precious ideological wealth for the later generation. Zhuxi spent all of his life on Jizhu of the Analects. It is one of the most important work of Zhuxi. Though there are many researches on JiZhu of the Analects,most of them focus their attention on Zhuxi's finger as a principle scientist, instead of paying attention on his explaining achievements. In recent years, some scholars began to devote to this domain, and gain quite a lot.LiuBaonan is a famous master of Qing Dynasty. He was born in Baoying, Jiangsu Province, in 1791A.D., and died in 1855A.D.. LiuBaonan is the representative one of"Yangzhou School", and also together with LiuTaigong and LiuGongmian called as"the three generations of Baoying Liu's".He wrote more than twenty works, such as The Chart of Baoying.As one of the new explanations of Qing Dynasty, ZhengYi of the Analects is the greatest one among the explanations of The Analects of Confucius in Qing Dynasty. Its research is informative and accurate. However, for many reasons, this great work began to be attached importance only in recent years. So, there are few research productions.Academically, JiZhu of the Analects by Zhuxi and ZhengYi of the Analects by LiuBaonan respectively represented Song Dynasty which Zhuxi lived in and Qing Dynasty which LiuBaonan lived in. This article compares with the two works, summarizes and discusses the similarities between the annotations of ZhuXi and LiuBaonan and their respective character, also study the distillation of their annotating methods and ideas. All of these are meaningful to the study and the history of annotating.The thesis is written from the perspective of the comparison between Jizhu of the Analects by Zhuxi and Zhengyi of the Analects by Liubaonan. The whole article can be divided into four parts as following:Part One: The similarities between Zhu's notes and Liu's notes. The similarities between Zhu's notes and Liu's notes which we will discuss in the thesis specially regard to that they can inherit the traditional explanations from the Han Dynasity. The thesis begins the comparative study from three respects: the Exegesis content, the methods and the glossary.Part Two: The differences between Zhu's notes and Liu's notes. This article figures that their differences mainly embody their exegeses and idealist philosophy. The differences of exegeses between ZhuXi and LiuBaonan mainly display in the developments and the innovations of LiuBaonan's exegeses which compares with ZhuXi's method. This part also analyses from the Exegesis content, the methods and the glossary. The differences between the idealist philosophies mainly represents as following: The different comprehensions of Study and Benvolence, the different comprehensions in how to comprehend the desire of a person and the different comprehensions in character.Part Three: The reasons for the similarities and differences between ZhuXi's and LiuBaonan's explainations. The reasons for the similarities are the family study traditions and the profound Confucian accomplishment of the two persons. The reasons for the differences between the two persons lie in the different historic backgrounds and different academic backgrounds.In a word,JiZhu of the Analects by Zhuxi and ZhengYi of the Analects by Liubaonan, not only represent their own scholarship, but also represent the academic character of Song and Qing Dynasty. They have left a bright trace in the entire history of hermeneutic and Confucian analects study.
