Confucius is the teacher for all ages. The Analects is academically recognized as the most representative bequeath document of Confucius’thoughts and there were a lot of commentaries in all ages. Jishan School, initiated by Liu Zongzhou who was a master of Confucianism in Ming Dynasty, had a great influence in the history of Confucianism. Explaining of The Analects originally was Liu Zongzhou’s handout of The Analects for his students. Some of his insights are so unique and deep, and they are of high study importance.Firstly this paper describes Liu’s life and works.He was of excellent character due to his strict family education, good teachers and helpful friends. Secondly, it briefly describes the writing background, creative process and naming reason of Explaining of The Analects. Then this paper mainly analyzes the exegesis way of Explaining of The Analects, the way by quoting Confucian classics, Confucian scholars’theories in Song and Ming Dynasty and the historical events. In the end, this paper probes the thoughts and core of Explaining of The Analects, that is how did Liu Zongzhou explain Xue, Ren and Dao of Confucian thoughts and what was his attitude towards the other doctrines.
