Liszt is an outstanding representative figure of the Romantic musicians in the 19th Century throughout the history of European music. He is especially paid attention to and admired by people and is crowned with the good name"the king of piano", for he creates tremendous excellent pieces of piano works. His creation displays the deep love for his country and people, produces symphonic musical effect, and shows smart skills. His music makes people enjoy the beauty and the implications containing in the arts.Sonata in B Minor, the main and the most representative works in Liszt's mature period, can be able to embody his creating characteristics. The thesis studies the works from its background, music ontology, e style and definition of performance to provide theoretical base for future performance and pedagogy.The thesis includes four chapters. Chapter one gives a brief account of Liszt, his works and creating characteristics that is emphasized by the author.Chapter two analyzes his works concerning about its background and music ontology. The author comprehensively introduces the whole works from natomises structure of musical forms, theme, mode and tonality characters, harmony styles, tessitura, rhythm, speed and pulse.Chapter three is the core of the whole thesis. By deeply studying the works, the author inducts the creating characteristics from three angles: vividness style, symphony style and race style.Chapter four narrates the performance points from three aspects: taking on the symphony, deducing the thesis, using the damper.The thesis resorts to the research approaches, inter-discipline and various angles, to study Sonata in B Minor and makes ontology analysis as the basis, creating characteristics as the deep point, definition of the performance as the distillation.
