Edward Grieg is the most representative composer of Norwegian national music school in the 19 th century. On the basis of inheriting the achievements of German classical and romantic music development,he integrated Norwegian folk music into it and created art music with Norwegian national style. In 1865,Grieg wrote piano sonata in E minor,Op.7,which is the only piano sonata of Grieg. The music is full of youthful vigor and enthusiasm and becomes one of Grieg's important works.Although this work is Grieg's early creation,Grieg constantly tries to combine the Norwegian national music materials and try to break through the traditional creation methods. In the first part of this paper, the national characteristics of the music are discussed from two aspects of harmony and melody. In harmony,Grieg uses the four elements of semitone, dominant, fixed bass and pure pentatonic to produce a harmony effect full of Norwegian characteristics. In melody,it is analyzed from three aspects: motive development, octave interval and model progression. The second part of this paper, combined with my own performance experience, through the octave, strength and expression used in the Piano Sonata in E minor,Op.7,combined with the performance suggestions put forward by my tutor, makes further practical research on performance interpretation.
