Twenty--first century is a new era that the Art of music blooms with diversity. Music is expressed in different forms and its creation becomes one of the hot topics in modern world. As we noticed, university students, whom concern with politics and technology, are also enthusiastic with the development of the Art, like music, painting, and literature. There is no doubt that students will generate their own idea about the contemporary music while taking their music education.Researches on music education among non-music-majored university students are meaningful. The researches might include how to introduce contemporary music, how to evaluate a composition, and how to penetrate through the music and get in touch with the culture.Thus this essay is framed into 3 parts, which include:Introduction of the involvement of western music and Chinese music in the twentieth century, and summarization the main styles, people, compositions, techniques, contends shown up in this period.Presentation of a survey's result. The survey was conducted among non-music-majored university students on their understanding of contemporary music and the situation or contemporary music education.Analysis on the statistics of the survey, discussion on the valuation of the contemporary music education, and suggestion on contemporary music education in the university's non-music-majored class.
