Along with the function linguistics specially cognition grammar starting, the semantic domain research attracts more and more attention from language educational world. The quarter category also occupied the important status in many categories. Because objective things' existence has certain space position, the event also occurs in certain spatial quarter, therefore the quarter category also becomes one kind of cognition category which reflects objective world. The quarter category is an important category in modern Chinese grammar research and is playing an indispensable influential role in Chinese expression. First this article reviewed kinds of viewpoints related to modern Chinese quarter category, then it will discuss the modern Chinese's quarter category from three planes, mainly from the following several aspects. First: syntax manifestation of quarter category. Second: syntax function of quarter category. Third: syntax position of quarter ingredient. Forth: semantic research of quarter ingredient. Fifth: language uses of quarter category .This article attempts to explain the definition of quarter category and the way of expression reasonably which bases on the investigation and study of massive language materials. This article analyses the characteristic of quarter category in the syntax, the semantics, and the pragmatics. I just hope my research on quarter category will have some value to later research and to the grammar teaching.
