Prepositions In Modern Chinese Inspection Of The Structural Position And Its Location Syntactic, Semantic Factor Analysis

This thesis mainly calculates the distribution and proportion of the positions of prepositional phrases in modern Chinese, especially in 'the outline for vocabulary and characters of HSK'. In the research we find that there are three possible positions for the prepositional phrases in modern Chinese: in front of the subject, between the subject and predicate, behind the predicate. Almost all the prepositional phrases are most commonly found between the subject and predicate. For more than half of prepositional phrases, there are two or even more possible positions. However, for a concrete prepositional phrases in true language materials, there is commonly only one position. It cannot be moved to other positions casually. Many factors can influence the position of prepositional phrases including syntax, semantics and pragmatics. The central point of analysis in this thesis is the influence of semantic and syntactic factors on the position of prepositional phrases, which can do some help to Chinese teaching as second language.
