"Tang Bai Jia Collection" is an important Tang poem anthology which is compiled by Northern Song Dynasty Wang Anshi. It is divided into twenty volumes and includes 1262 poems written by 104 poets respectively. There are two editions in this Collection: edition by subject and poets. But the former is incomplete one. This paper elaborates "Tang Bai Jia Collection" which based on the block-printed book in 1704 (43rd year of the reign of Emperor Kangxi), and examines the Collection from three aspects in expectancy of understanding this Collection better.First, the paper states and tried to verify the writer's detailed information, background for writing, intention to compile and something on spreading. It examines the process of compiling and passing down in Song and Qing Dynasty in a systematic way. Second, with statistic and analytical method, the paper researches characteristics of the selected poets and poems in this Collection basing on the cultural background of Northern Song and Wang Anshi's views on literature. Third, this paper , combined whit traits of the Collection, states the value of its poetics as well as documentary value in the aspect of textual criticism and collation. It finally explores the influence on the later selected books of Tang poems by the principles and the compiled characteristics of the Collection. Through analysis and statement of the paper, we can find "Tang BaiJia Collection" plays on an important role in the entire progress of Tang poetry's criticism whit its sole purport and immense scope in selecting works.
