Through the research into the types of self-disclosure of the clients during the first interview, the intervening mode of novice consultant and the responding mode of the clients to the consultant, this paper presents the style of self-disclosure of the clients during the first interview in order to provide the new consultant with certain references for effective evaluation and guidance of the clients. This study adopts two ways of sampling--purposeful sampling and convenient sampling, collecting the conversation record during the first time interview of 4 college students and their novice consultants in Psychological Consulting Centre. After the transcription of the record and the category analysis of the transcription, this paper explores into the styles of self-disclosure of the college students during the first time interview. The main conclusions obtained from the research are as follows:(1) During the first interview, the clients'styles of self-disclosure falls into three categories: descriptive, sensible and evaluative self-disclosure. Descriptive self-disclosure refers to the factual description and the description of the past experiences; sensible self-disclosure refers to the disclosure of the real-time psychological experience, evaluative self-disclosure refers to the ideas or attitudes of the oneself or the others.(2) The modes of self-disclosure falls into three categories: blind-controlling, closed-resistant, and open-interactive self-disclosure. Blind-controlling is inclined to self-disclose more, but be blind to the interaction with the consultant, willing to control the direction of the conversation; closed-resistant self-disclosure discloses less, is not positive, prefers to remain silent with a resistant attitude toward the consultant during the interview; open-interactive self-disclosure is inclined to self-disclose more, actively communicate with the consultant, thus a good interactive atmosphere between the clients and the consultants can been formed.(3) During the first interview, the novice consultants tend to use such intervening modes as listening, clarification, encouragement, mutual emotion, self-disclosure, inquiry and so on. This research finds the novice consultants can listen to the clients attentively, and is good at clarifying and real-time encouragement. When asking, they tend to adopt close-ended questions, lacks mutual emotion and pay more attention to the specific matter.(4) The responding modes of the clients to the consultants falls into these categories: active response, negative resistance, confrontation and so on. Different responding modes appear in all different clients. However, the open-interactive clients tend to adopt positive responses, that is, they can interactive with the consultants well despite their disagreement with their consultants. Closed-resistant clients tend to answer perfunctorily or remain silent to the questions of the consultants. The blind-controlling and the open-interactive clients would confront with the consultant with there is disagreement with them and the consultants.
