The Self-disclosure Of Undergraduates To Their Net Friends And The Relational Study

Self-disclosure is one of the most important topics in communication and psychological research.There have been many productions gained from the prior work. However,it is found that most studies on self-disclosure have been based on face-to-face situation,which ignored the fact that communication based on internet has been so popular in our lives.Especially for youngster,such as undergraduates,it has been one part of their lives communicating by internet today.So,based on the analyzation of the previous researches,open questionnaire,and interview,this study created a self-disclosure questionnaire for Chinese undergraduates with their net friend.Then the actualities and characteristics of their self-disclosure were investigated. The relationship between self-consciousness and self-disclosure,loneliness and self-disclosure were also explored.The results of this study are as follows:1.Self-disclosure topics questionnaire consists of six dimensions:emotion, attitude,study,opposite sex interpersonal interaction,parent-child relationship,and personality.The reliability and validity of the questionnaire were tested acceptable.2.The level of undergraduates' self-disclosure to the best net friend of the opposite sex and the same sex are higher than that to common net friend and strangers.3.There are gender differences among undergraduates' self-disclosure to different targets.To the best friends of the same sex,the disclosure of male about the five topics except opposite sex interaction are significantly lower than that of female.The level of self-disclosure of male on opposite sex interpersonal interaction topic to the best net friend of the opposite sex,parent-child relationship topic to the common net friend, and emotion and opposite sex interpersonal interaction topics to the stranger,are higher than that of femle.There are grade differences among undergraduates' self-disclosure to different targets,too.As a whole,the self-disclosure on different topics of freshmen is relatively higher,and that of Grade Three is relatively lower than others.4.There are netting age differences among undergraduates' self-disclosure to different targets.Except to strangers,the disclosure of different topics to other three targets in the long netting age undergraduates is higher than that in short netting age students.There are no netting frequency differences among total self-disclosure to different targets.However,to strangers,the disclosure of attitude and emotion in participants with higher netting frequency is higer than those with lower netting frequency.5.To the best net friend of the opposite sex,their self-disclosure is positively related to private-consciousness and public-consciousness.To the best friends of the same sex,their self-disclosure is positively related to private-consciousness,public-consciousness and social anxiety.To the common net friend and the stranger,their self-disclosure is positively related to social anxiety.The private-consciousness and public-consciousness can positively forecast the self-disclosure to the best net friends.6.The loneliness of participants is positively related to and forecast the self-disclosure to their best opposite net friends and strangers.
