It is widely accepted by the contemporary scholars that the multivocal and creative features of language have profited from the usage of metaphor, which is everywhere in our lives, with the renovated notion of which is not only as a common figure of speech, but also as a way of thinking, which is proved to be universal, and unable to be simplified. The metaphorical hypostasis is based on the philosophy of mind, such as embodied philosophy, stipulating our rational reasoning. So metaphor is a cognitive phenomenon regarding different ways of thinking. One main genre of psychology—psychoanalysis was founded by Freud and revealed in his great works,The Interpretation Of Dreams. It is by analyzing the dreams that Freud sought the unconscious motive and impulsion which led to psychopathy. This paper aims at expounding Freud's The Interpretation Of Dreams from the metaphorical perspective.Whether in terms of a figure of speech or a way of thinking, as I can see, every page of his works is full of metaphors, revealing the most intricate and the most abstract psychological realm with the classifications of five types of mechanism;meanwhile,is dream itself a metaphor? Dreams defined by Freud is an inner urge, making up itself to dodge the inspection of morality. In this sense, the interpretation of dreams is the process in which domain of virtual world is being mapped into the domain of real world.Since dreams come from the reality, here in analyzing it,it traced back to its source. Then I study some typical dreams in his works by the conceptual metaphor theory(CMT) and the blending theory(BT).In the end,I prospect the inestimable ground that metaphor hold in psychoanalysis.
