This thesis focuses on genre analysis of English resumes. By comparing classic paradigms of genre analysis in the fields of Systemic Functional Grammar and English for Special Purposes, this thesis proposes a theoretical framework for current study, which is based on some theories of Systemic Functional Grammar such as"context","Generic Structure Potential","Macro-theme/Hyper-theme Progression"and"metafuncitons". Besides, theories such as"Communicative Purpose"and"Move-Step"in the field of English for Special Purposes,"Non-verbal Signs"in Semiotics and"Foregrounding"in Stylistics are also included in the framework.By applying the framework in the analysis of 50 English resumes, this thesis summarizes the Contextual Configuration, Communicative Purpose, Generic Structure Potential, Lexical-grammatical features and graphological features of English resumes, thus demonstrates the validity of the framework and the maneuverability of Systemic Functional Grammar. |
