The development of modern economy and tourism has greatly promoted hotels to go into the international market. English hotel introductions, as the carrier of information exchange between hotels and consumers, play a significant role in the establishment of hotel image and the development of hotel business. At present, some scholars have conducted researches on English hotel introductions from the perspectives of translation, culture, etc. while few are from the point of generic structure. The present study, on the basis of Swales'and Bhatia's genre analysis, was a comparative genre analysis of English introductions of domestic and foreign hotels from the perspective of Halliday's systemic functional grammar. The data of this paper were collected from the official websites of domestic and foreign hotels. The corpus consisted of 50 samples, including 25 English introductions of domestic and foreign hotels respectively. Based on Swales'and Bhatia'genre analysis models and Halliday's systemic functional grammar, the author studied the macro generic structures and micro linguistic features of English introductions of domestic and foreign hotels, compared the similarities and contrasted the differences. From the macro point of view, the data showed that the move structures of English introductions of domestic and foreign hotels shared great similarities and generally contain five moves, among which two moves were obligatory while the others were optional. However, due to the influences of culture, society and writing strategies, differences also existed in certain moves and steps. From the micro point of view, through the analysis of six processes which represent transitivity, the result showed that material processes and relational processes were dominant in English introductions of domestic and foreign hotels in narrating hotel events and current situations. The analysis of mood system showed that a large number of declarative clauses were used to provide information in English introductions of domestic and foreign hotels. However, in English introductions of foreign hotels, more imperative clauses were adopted to encourage people to take actions. In addition, subjects related with guests appeared more frequently in the English introductions of foreign hotels, which demonstrated their emphasis on the importance of guests. When it comes to thematic structure, the simple unmarked themes were mainly used in both English introductions of domestic and foreign hotels. Marked themes and multiple themes were higher used in English introductions of foreign hotels.By studying the generic structures and analyzing the linguistic features of English introductions of domestic and foreign hotels, the present research may confirm and enrich the applicability of genre analysis and systemic functional grammar. It may also provide some guidance and help for teaching and writing English hotel introductions.
