Wu The Wuzhou Piece Voice Research

The South Wu dialect plays an important role in Chinese dialect. The Wuzhou dialect, as its important part, becomes the focus of many researchers. However, it is a pity that there is only one study in the phonetics of Wuzhou dialect"The Phonetic Study of The South Wu Dialect" which is written by Cao Zhiyun. Therefore, it is essential to make a complete comparison to Wuzhou dialect.The comparative study on the Wuzhou dialect is an uneasy task, and a master cannot include all the aspects of the Wuzhou dialect. In regard to personal ability, it's impossible to do.This paper mainly contains two pieces of works.Firstly, I input the phonetic materials written by previous researchers on the computer and then transfer them to databases. After that a historical comparison between these datas and middle Chinese is done, then tabulate these results. If there are differences in literary reading and colloquial reading, an analysis should be taken in the historical stratum as far as possible. The historical comparison with middle Chinese was not final results, but the first step of historical analysis. Tabulating these comparison had not only greater delight, but also provide further studies. Thus, this paper is only the foreshadowing in overall research.Secondly, I make special discuss on several phonetic features of the Wuzhou dialect.1. The implosive changes into the nasal.2. The diversion of"wen du"and"bai du".3. The longer of the"ru"tone.The thesis consists of 5 chapters. Chapter 1 introduces the area and history of the Wuzhou dialect, previous study and the meaning and structure of the thesis. Chapter 2 and 3 describes and concludes the initial, final, and tone systems of the Wuzhou dialect. Chapter 4 especially analyzes the particular characters of the initial and final system. Chapter 5 concludes the phonology systems of the dialects belongs to the Wuzhou dialect, and lists the numbers of the initial, final, and tone of the Wuzhou dialect.The most difficult part of historical comparison is the diversion of"wen du"and"bai du". This paper compares the phonetics of 9 places in Wuzhou dialect to get the basic standards, I discuss these standards in Chapter 4.In the materials of 9 places, I have researched the Nanma dialect by myself, and made record. I haven't proofread the other materials completely, but corrected some obvious errors when doing databases. If we can say, comparison is the first step of analysis, so the forms in this thesis are the results of comparison and analysis. But, generally speaking, this paper only do some works on materials, and it is the basic work which used a lot of times.I hope the basic work will contribute to more research on the phonetics of Wuzhou dialect.
