From the perspectives of art appreciation and creation practice, the essay has made key analysis and arguments on the art characteristics of Buddhist stories painting at No. 290 Cave of Dunhuang Mogao Caves, probes into the involved aesthetics questions, expounds its background and its influence to later generations, and points out that the vivid Buddhist stories painting is rich in light and primitive simplicity, profound meanings and the spirits of Chinese paintings. The painting is a masterpiece which embodies the artistic rules from the formal language and other aspects. Therefore, the paper has completed the re-cognition of concrete works with grand Dunhuang art traditions from the angle of painting.
