Provincial Intangible Cultural Heritage "xiangyang Flower Drum Opera," The Concert Features

This paper discusses tentatively the vocal music and singing features of Xiangyang Flower- drum Opera, a provincial-level non-material cultural heritage , to find a new path for inheriting and developing the traditional cultural heritage at the present time .The paper is divided into four parts. The first part is a general introduction, dealing with the origin, evolution of Xiangyang Flower- Drum Opera and its inheritance in the present difficult situation; Beginning from the basic characteristics of its vocal music, the second part has analyzed the melody features, the mode, the rhythm, the commonly used board style, the accompanied music and the musical instrument of Xiangyang Flower-drum Opera as well as the cavity characteristics of the newly created Flower- drum Opera "Songyu Elegy"; The third part explores the singing methods, the characteristics of its language, articulation and cavity-moistening of the Opera by way of field investigations. The fourth part puts forward some suggestions of excavation, protection, inheritance and development of this non-material cultural heritage: maintain its characteristics by development and innovation. With the combination of theories in vocal music, music literature study, the field survey procedure and comparative method into the study of the Opera, the paper attempts to explore the ways of innovation of its vocal music to give a full play of its acoustic effects on the basis of Xiangfan Dialect so as to satisfy demands of appreciation of the present society.
