This paper has elaborated on Taiwan growth movies since the 1980s and divided into four major parts. In the foreword, it has summarized the reasons and background of the rise of this kind of movies in the 1980s. In the first part, it has discussed the definition and classification of Taiwan growth movies since the 1980s. According to the contents of these movies, it can be divided into two parts: blue growing path and cruel disaster path. The second part has mainly explored the themes of such movies in three growing stages. Growth before gaining experience of the world is regarded as a pure white spiritual home, cultural issues involved are the focus of this part. Through difficult courses of gaining experience of the world, growth is finally transformed. The third part has analyzed the images in the movies from two angles of growing individuals and the leading person. The fourth part has summarized the characteristics of narrative prototype and narrative strategies of Taiwan growth movies since the 1980s. In the conclusion, the writer has also made a brief exposition regarding some similarities of video aspects of these movies as well as their unique social and cultural values.
