There have been tremendous changes in the Old and well-known families during the period of Jin Dynasties and the Southern Dynasties. The rise and fall of scholar-bureaucrat was consistent with the vicissitude of the entire era at all times. Therefore, we try to gain an insight into the skeleton of the development of history through the case study of Jiang's families in Ji Yang during this period. One of the methods used in the study of sociology is case study, which has been well proved to be a feasible technology for the study of historiography and literature. In the past case studies of Old families, the immigrant families mainly focused on noble ones, such as Wang's and Xie's families, and the local more focused on Gu's,Lu's,Zhu's,and Zhang's families, however, there has been much little studies for the medium families, including Jiang's ones in Ji Yang, etc. In view of it, we adopt the research method from point to an area to study the Jiang's families,in which we take Jiang Yan as the center of our studies. Starting from the origins of the families, and tracing back to the period between Han Dynasties, Wei Dynasty, Jin Dynasties and the Southern Dynasties,we primarily probe into certain issues, such as changes in social status, lineage and the style of the familiy and so on in Jiang's families in Ji Yang by studying the special topics of relative independence and of consistence, which are as the horizontal line.On the basis of the study in the achievements of his father and grandfather, we can definitely determine Jiang Yan's status among the scholar-bureaucrats,and grasp his political life and his thoughts about going into the society through investigating his representative deeds among the official people in the Southern Dynasties. The studies of "JiangLang CaiJin"(江郎才尽) is the innovation of this paper. Starting from the new perspective, we put forward a new type of story on transferring of talents and learning(or gain and loss of scholarship), which is based on folklore and supplemented by studies of psychology, folklore and culture, through analyzing the context of the story deeply.
