Most of the studies and spreading on western art songs are limited to those works from Germany and Austra. However, Italian art songs, especially produced in late-Romantic and early Twentieth century, have not been studied systematicly, not even by the scholars and musicologists who have pulished many top-level essays on those music. Respighi Ottorino, a famous italian composer, his art song production takes place in a"controversial moment of the histroy of Italy during the first thirty years of last century. In those years this musical form, so popular especailly in Germany, in Italy is"suffocated by Opear's spreading". In order to reach his symphonic pieces, Fontane di Roma, Pini di Roma and Feste romane, it took him fifteen years to research, study in all various fields of culture and in all difference spiritual tendencies in Europe and devoted them into his slow yet precise artistic production. In his songs, Respighi developed a unique language in which he allowed himself to be led by the emotional connection he felt with both the text's meaning and atmosphere, which is the characteristic of Respighi and of his era as well. In most of his songs, strong melodies are accompanied by transparent, refined piano parts, structured in a harmonic pattern of modulations following the poetry's mood changes. The variety and quality of Respighi's songs provide plenty of contrasts; many of them are true jewels and deserve to be perfomed more regularly.
