Eagleton, Ideology Theory

Terry Eagleton is an outstanding scholar on contemporary Western Marxism, he is very famous in Western academic circles, the theory of ideology is becoming an important component of the theories. By the study of ideology which is the core of his thought, this thesis provide some meaningful advice in order to continue the in-depth study Eagleton and his thought.The theory of ideology proposed by Terry Eagleton summarized the preceding studies and deepened these theories on different levels.The theory of ideology experienced gradual development and construction in the following decade in which Eagleton absorbed various related theories to improve the definition of ideology,and to form different confinements to the terminology.From the point view of epistemology and sociology, Eagleton emphasized the pratical function of the ideology.Meanwhile,he applied the theory to the study on literature,and proposed the"literature is production of ideology",the literature production concerned six areas and the relationships among them,and the literature text is the production of the six areas.And then, Eagleton studied the theory of the aesthetic ideology.He viewed ideology as the core discourse connecting politics and aesthetic.As a kind of ideology, aesthetics has internal conflicts of his own. Eagleton proposed that body is the basis of ideology and aesthetic activities,which,meanwhile,constructed body.The construction of aesthetic idea associated with the existence of ideology and challenged ideology at the same time. Eagleton researched the postmodernism under maintaining Marxist basic position and criticized the illusion of the postmodernism.In the exploration of the ideology on the road, Eagleton seeks idel ways of social practice in the future as a socialism believer .The reality of this positive spirit of caring and unifying theory with practice, which is what we should learn for reference.
