A Superficial Understanding On Eagleton’s Theory Of Ideology

There has been many great thinkers known well by us On the research of thecomplicated term "ideology". In recent years, as long as mentioning of "ideology", wecannot avoid a theorist from Britain,Terry Eagleton (1943~). The philosopher includeideology in the broad social life with dialectical views, and make a appropriate discusson ideology in the fully possibility of this term as best as he could. In order to makemore people understand the value of the ideological theory of Eagleton, this articleemerges.This paper is divided into three parts: Introduction, body and conclusion. To makea bedding of Eagleton’s theory of ideology, the part of introduction reviews centuries ofthe theoretical development on ideology, which can be used as the origin of Eagleton’stheory of ideology; Then the author of this article describes and dissects the currentsituation on the research of Eagleton’s theory of ideology, on the basic of which, tolooking for breakthrough points of this article.The body of the paper consists of three chapters. Due to the important role that lifeexperiences plays in one’s thoughts, the first part makes a brief description on the lifejourney of Eagleton. Then the author makes a demarcation for the whole theory ofideology of Eagleton. Through analyzing Eagleton’s point on the current generalideological concepts and strategies, the author of the article proves the open attitude ofthe concept of ideology on Eagleton. By explaining how Eagleton deals with thecharacter of ideology, we show Eagleton’s dialectical view of his ideological thinking.On this basis, this paper respectively investigates the Eagleton’s theory of literaryideology and aesthetic ideology thoughts, and expound focused on his great creativeproduction that treat literature as social ideology, and insist on the particularity of thisterm. And make a brief analysis of the literature in its value. At the same time, throughdiscussing the relationships with body and politics of ideology of the Aesthetic, weunderstand the cares of Eagleton in reconstructing materialism aesthetics whichrepresented by the term “Body” and the strong concerning to the real persons.In the conclusion part, the paper reviews the Eagleton’s theory of ideology from the whole once again. It points out that the shortcomings of the theory in the Style ofwriting may be called “elitism” and the limitations of practice aimed at the author ofthis paper. Furthermore, it noticed the great value of Eagleton’s theory of ideology. Wecan say that it provides quite a valuable reference for the study of the theory of the latergenerations that the enlightenment, the openness, the low profile on self-reflection ofEagleton’s theory of ideology, and even the consciously use of the Marxist dialecticalthought in the constructing his own theory of ideology.
