The Tang Dynasty From The Taiping Women And Folk Beliefs

Civilian Belief, as a kind of social ideology, reflects the real life and reacts thesocial ontology. In recent years, the research on the women history has beingsnatched more and more attention in the academic field. Compared to the 50%occupation of social population, women are always limited in the scale of politics andfamily. Consequently, they are considered more as wives and mothers. Nowadays,researchers pay more attention to the marriage, family, entertainment, education andso on, of women in Tang dynasty, while the pursuit at spiritual level, especial thecivilian belief of women at that time has been overlooked. On the Basis of theclassified work Tai Ping Guang Ji, this thesis paper analyzes the civilian belief ofwomen in Tang Dynasty by methods of multi-subjects, so as to get overallunderstanding of women in that period through their spiritual world. The content ofthe civilian belief of women in Tang Dynasty is abundant, covering adoration tonature, worship to god, superstition to evil and the folk belief towards Buddhism andTaoism. Women's beliefs have their own characteristics. Through the perspectives onthe civilian belief of women in Tang Dynasty, we are able to recognize women in TangDynasty and the whole society on the other side. Meanwhile, we sincerely expect tooffer another new point of view to do more researches on the history of women. Allabove are worthwhile.Making use of methodologies of different subjects, around the works Tai PingGuang Ji as the center, this thesis paper notices women in Tang Dynasty and civilianbelief. The whole paper has three sections: Section one: making introduction onsituations of civilian belief of women in Tang Dynasty through natural worship,animal and plant worship, evil and god belief, influence of belief of Buddhism andTaoism on women; Section two: analyzing the formation of civilian belief of womenin Tang Dynasty: civilian belief of women in Tang Dynasty reflects wishes ofmarriage, birth, health, safety, warding off evils, all of which are practical elements.All of these can be concluded as characteristics of women belief in certain degrees;Section three: Through the civilian belief, setting the conceptions pudicity andmarriage as the center, this paper makes discussion of the conception of women inTang Dynasty.
