Imaging Urban People

The thesis focusing on the diverse relations among the images, metropolises, and figures that appear in the urban films created by the new-generation directors of China's mainland, analyzes several significant aspects referring to these urban films thoroughly and deeply. First, the thesis not only defines the urban films, but also analyzes the cultural context that made the new-generation directors' urban films born and summarizes the subjects and characters existing in the urban films. Second, based on the theory of narrative, the thesis summarizes and explains the parallel and inserted narrative structure contained in the urban films, and analyzes the visual angle of narrative and the prose-like plot in the films. Third, from the point of image, sound and culture, the thesis discusses the art character and cultural value existing in the urban films separately.
