TV documentary, as an important form of TV programs, is the main part of Chinese New Documentary Movement. It has values of art, thoughts and social influences. Most TV documentaries are produced in columns. As media system reformed, the social framework adjusted and the aesthetic idea improved, TV documentary column meets great challenges and chances. This thesis analysis the organization, power relationship and members' identities of TV documentary column with the concept of professionalism, and describes a picture of the TV column as communicator. Professionalism, which means the attributes and ideology of TV documentaries, develops from the documentary history and College training, including personal feeling of social and historical responsibility, moreover, the pursuit of TV art. In Chinese TV system, TV documentary professionalism, compared with the political and economic power, leaves a limited area for TV documentary, and leads to the different identities and program definition of TV documentary maker. This thesis is mainly divided into four parts. The part one introduces the main idea and research method. The part two describes the history of Chinese TV documentary and aesthetic concept. The part there cases about the power relationship in TV column form a view of political economy of communication. The fourth part focuses on the construction of professionalism from there angles: identities, column subsistence and documentary moral.
