The dress system in Ming Dynasty is regarded as the most complete one in Chinese ancient Han dress culture. Dress system in Ming Dynasty has the characteristic of completeness—people, like emperors, common people, dancers, musicians, even monks, all wear different styles of dresses. Moreover, dresses in Ming Dynasty are with various baldrics and ornaments and exhibit exquisite workmanship. The dress system in Ming Dynasty not only inherits the characteristics of Chinese ancient dress culture, but also takes in the distinctive regulations of that era. It provides comprehensive and direct materials for further researches of the dress system of Han nationality.This paper investigates The History of Ming Dynasty—A history of Yu Dress and studies the styles of Yu dresses particularly. By comparing and categorizing, the author clarifies the history of the development of the dresses in Ming Dynasty, analyzes the characteristics of the dress system in Ming Dynasty and discusses its cultural significances. It is hoped that this paper may provide some ideas and references for the researches of dress culture and today's dress development.
