The folk craft is an image about traditional culture, a belief, a fable, a custom and so on. It condenses the social practice and the folk custom which pass on for generations in a place. It is creates by the people according to the life request, and also for the people's common use. Its local taste and regional characteristics have an approval and a return in the emotion, and become the essential content in the people's material life and spiritual life. However, as a result of the modern industry civilization's rapid development, the existing space of folk crafts is getting smaller, the massive folk crafts face with extermination. Fortunately, along with the non-material cultural heritage protection, the cultural value of the folk craft arouses people's interest gradually. Moreover, because of the propaganda of media and the stimulation of tourism, the folk value of the folk craft has obtained an 'excavation' fully, thus glows a kind of prolonged vitality. Taking Yang Jiabu's woodcut New Year pictures and the kites as the example, this thesis discusses the survival and the development of the folk craft in modern society.My thesis is divided into six parts.The first part is introductory remarks. The second part outlines a complete picture of Yang Jiabu, transfers its basic situation, in macroscopic carries on the introduction to folk craft's development and vicissitude in Yang Jiabu's 600 remaining years.The third part analyzes the development, the evolution and the cultural characteristic of Yang Jiabu's woodcut New Year pictures and the kites, and discusses the cultural values, esthetics characteristics and esthetics values of crafts in Yang Jiabu.The fourth part introduces the local government's action in protecting and developing Yang Jiabu's crafts, and elaborates its leading role which displays in protection and development. This part also introduces the local craftsmen unremitting endeavor for the inheritance, the innovation, and the flourish. In the last, this part summarizes the crafts' developmental pattern in Yang Jiabu.The fifth part introduces the survival difficulties of Yang Jiabu's crafts in the present situation, and discusses several reasons in imminent danger. Respectively: The survival environment disintegrates, and the survival soil suffers the destruction; Ancient versions damage, and real things outflow; One-sided pursuing economic efficiency, the traditional manual technique is desalinated, and the cultural connotation is read by mistake; The idea is conservative, and the innovative ideology is light; The operational mechanism is backward, and foreign propaganda isn't strong; Lack of successors, the technique faces with lost.
