Between the Northern and Southern Song dynasty, chaos were caused by war dispute with corrupted ruling class, intense national conflict and unstable society.Wang Zhidao, who is discussed in this article, lived during this period of time. As an ambitious scholar, Wang Zhidao witnessed the cruel social reality. It is no doubt that he would like to express his sadness and indignation by writing during his whole life. In his poetry, prose, longer and shorter lines and other literary works, his complicated feelings were fully reflected. On the one hand, he sharply and boldly satirized the shameful behaviors of Southern Song Dynasty, on the other hand, he showed his yearning for peaceful life by depicting the beauty of natural sceneries quietly. As the second poem in 2 Danyang Lake Poems said: "when the country was in danger, he would devote himself to the nation; when he isolated from he the noisy society, he would put his sadnes and depression into the wine."(Xiang mount collections) It not only sums up all of Wang Zhidao's works, but sums up his whole life. This article tests and states Wang Zhidao himself and his deeds, probes into his thoughts and devotes to poetry comprehensive research, while demonstrating the features of his poetry and also giving them objective appraisal from two aspects: the content and artistic features.The article can be divided into four chapters: the first chapter tests and states Wang Zhidao's biography, his works and friends to show us his whole life; Chapter 2 explains the influence of Confucian and Buddhist thoughts on the poet. In chapter 3, the content of Wang Zhidao's poetry is demonstrated comprehensively in four categories: patriotic poetry, seciusion poetry, farming poetry, and chant poetry. Based on the verse, the fourth Chapter analyzes the artistic features of Wang Zhidao's poetry and gives them and the poet himself a fair appraisal by anylyzing his poetic style and means of quoting allusions.
