As the most typical pattern of popular culture,telepalys contain lots of signs.Such as the influence of political and economical systems ,the consequence of traditional culture.Through teleplays,we can also figure out the consumerism which has been prevailing for a long time and the shock of postmodernism.At the same time ,teleplays can show us which direction popular culture may go in the future. Among all the types of teleplays,we choose historical teleplays as our object of study because of their advantages in integrating kinds of resources .On one hand,historical teleplays evoke plenty attentions from the intellectuals since their close connection with history and culture;on the other hand ,historical teleplays possess the special ability to fulfill the function of ideology by interpellation since their signified seem to have little to do with the present while their signifier on the contrary have close concern with the present. The scene of wars and life in the palace are really fantastic to the audience.Historical teleplays become the intersection of different forces.This is the reason why we choose them as our object.Once they get interpreted by the audience,they change into a text through which we can perceive the present society.Historical teleplays mean much more than a kind of teleplay.The prevalence or decline of historical teleplays result from the contrast of different forces in the field of culture.That is to say,we can tell how the cultural context influence the development of teleplays and how teleplays adjust themselves to the varing social conditions by improving their rhetoric if we look through the long road which teleplays has just accomplished.Cultural studies will be the angle from which we try to study teleplays.Cultural studies,which pays close attention to popular culture,focuses not only on the works of art but also on the complicated process of art producing and consuming.Cultural text contains several elements such as pressure of the policy and demands coming from the market .Cultural studies insists on questioning what part not only the institutional force of the government but also the economical force of the market-oriented economy plays in that process.Including the pressure given by critical intellectuals,teleplays must face the music.(chapter one)The revolutionary historical teleplays appears to be prominent since it is a kind of narration about revolution in a post-revolutionary era.It covers both revolutionary narration which aims at constructing "Charismas" and anti-revolutionary narration through which we could tell the influence of the prevailing popular culture and the economical force of the prosperous market-oriented economy .Of course the two kinds of narration share one common ground since they all endeavor to interpellate individuals.(chapter two)Comparing to the apparent ideological standpoint of the revolutionary historical teleplays,the serious historical teleplays possess an indistinct viewpoint when concerning ideology because it interpellates in ventriloquism.(chapter three) The comic historical teleplays is considered as the most typical type of popular culture.By absorbing the wit and humor of folk culture,it supplies the audience with fantasy and revelry.The comic historical teleplays acts as a symbol of popular culture era and represents the decline of enlightenment.(chapter four )So far the historical teleplays has not yet excavated the potential of history,and there is still a lot of the traditional culture waiting to be absorbed.Coping with all kinds of challenges resulting from the cultural field,historical teleplays must find its own way to become one popular art with abundant cultural deposits...
