This report is based on the translation of excerpt from Rhetoric in Popular Culture(Chapter Two). The author Barry Brummett is the professor of the University Texas. This chapter mainly includes definitions and the management of power, how democracy grew up with rhetoric, rhetoric in Athens, Plato’s complaints against the sophists and two of the Greek rhetoric tradition. This chapter is material of moderate difficulty and formal language style. This translation report consists of four parts. The first part gives a brief introduction of the translation task, including the source of the text and the brief introduction of it. The second part is the process of translation, including the preparatory stage, the difficulties solved during the translation and the checking, polishing and finalizing of the translation text. The third part is the analysis of the translation text, in which typical translation examples are selected and analyzed in the aspects of vocabulary and sentence. The fourth part is a summary of the translation from the aspects of reflection, suggestions and outlooks for MTI students.
