He taught his children that the goal of reading was not getting official position but accumulating knowledge and improving personal qualities. In the family he asked his children to engage in labor and avoid extravagant life. Zeng Guofan's ideology was reflected in the letters to his family, so we should research these letters deeply to explore his true idea-face.
