After the Second Opium War, missionaries gained the right to preach in whole China, themissionary activities had expanded. "To assist mission with education enterprise"------founding and managing Missionary schools was an important activity of the Christan Protestant missionaries in China during Late Qing. Some Missionary schools had played an important impact on local mordern education or even China's mordern Education. One of example was "Tengchow College" . American Protestant missionary Calvin Wilson Matteer and his wife began to found a primary school in Tengchow in 1860s. They Overcame various difficulties, so the primary school developed to Tengchow College with the increasing expansion. The Tengchow College trained Secular teaching staff in education aim, trained thinking skills and advocated the practice in teaching methods, introduced the Western natural science in curriculum content, used music to cultivate sentiments in moral education, drawed up detailed regulations and form a good style of study in education management, so the college playde a demonstrate role in founding Missionary schools by Shan Dong's missionaries and gave successful experiences to Qing Shandong University. The College suppplied many teachers to Qing new schools, at the same time, the College influenced society on other aspects .The evaluation on Tengchow College should adhere to dialectical thinking. We should recognize the limitations side,even more recognize the positive side.
