| There are great differences existing between Chinese and English thinking modes which are reflected not only on the characters of language itself but also on the word orders.Writing is an arduous task to complete in English teaching.Experiences tell us that word order is an immense obstacle to students' effective writing.The analysis of the compositions of the vocational college students shows that in addition to vocabulary and tenses mistakes,syntactic errors and Chinglish such as word disorder,unfocused topic sentences,and inappropriate transition,are quite common in Chinese students' English writing.On the basis of English and Chinese word order differences,this article explores the influences made by the differences in words choices,sentence structures and passage structures in the course of students' writing.With the first-hand language materials obtained from teaching and under the guidance of the theories of transfer and contrastive analysis,the author makes an analytical contrast of word order between English and Chinese at both the syntactical and discourse levels including the simple sentences,the complex sentences,modifiers and the English essay order.With theory combined with practice,the author puts emphasis on the differences expressed in English and Chinese and tries to put forward some teaching modes to foster students both in their express ability and thinking habits so as to improve the English teaching practice on writing.In view of this goal,the author has made attempts to utilize the contrastive method of word order in teaching English writing in vocational colleges in order to test the result of this teaching method,and has done some experimental research on the contrastive teaching of word order between English and Chinese.The present paper is intended to analyze the post-teaching changes in the word order mistakes and the quality of students' writing.Meanwhile,the author analysis the limitation of this research and point out the direction of the future research. |
