With the continuous development of language teaching, the academic circles and education circles pay more attention to the cultural factors in language teaching. Language and culture are closely related. They promote and effect each other. Cultural involved in language teaching is also one of the elements of language, which overseas students must master.In the world’s cultural customs, food culture is very important and representative aspect. In the process of intercultural communication, with the wide spreading about culture, people can learn more about the culture of country that they stay. The most representative diet culture can stimulate students’enthusiasm for learning language.Chinese diet cultural and American diet cultural have their own characteristics. Chinese diet culture have a long history, profound implication and profound meaning. America diet culture is convenient and diversity. Although the domestic and foreign scholars in this diet culture have many comparative studies,but they did not form a detailed system to present. They usually explored only one or few aspects. In the aspects of culture teaching, teachers don’t practice the diet culture teaching as a special system.The author study the diet cultural content in the language and culture textbooks deeply and explore guiding significance in culture teaching.First of all, in the American and Chinese diet survey, this paper detailed analyze and compare the diet culture, etiquette, ideas and eating habits between China and America. In the comparison of diet culture, the author mainly compare difference on three aspects about the diet, cooking methods and festival diet. In comparison of etiquette, the author will compare difference involve the form of dining, tableware and dining etiquette. The author will focus on the analysis of the most obvious difference between Chinese and Western thinking on the diet culture. Author analyze the merits and drawbacks combined with Chinese and American daily eating habits. By comparing the four aspects, author want to discuss and explore the spirit and the ideological connotation behind the culture appearance. Secondly, author will compare and analyze the related content of diet culture between Chinese and American textbooks in detail. It mainly involves the analysis about Chinese language textbooks, culture textbooks, American language textbooks and multimedia teaching materials, and research the textbook compiling idea. The third one, the author will explore the aspects of diet culture factors and teaching strategies. Beside five teaching methods which apply in teaching:teaching method, comparative method, demonstration method, visit method and practice method, the author will explore the necessity of teaching about practice cultural activities and the application of multimedia means in teaching. Finally, I will design the diet culture teaching lesson plans.Through the comparison and teaching study on Chinese and American diet culture, author tries to explore the methods which is better on culture teaching and provide the reference for further research.
