Emperor Wu in the Han Dynasty carried out a policy of proscribing all non-Confucian schools of thought and espousing Confucianism as the orthodox state ideology. From that time on, Jing (Confucian classics) became the orthodoxy serving for the ruling class of China in the feudal societies. The study of Confucian classics had been dominating the state ideology for more than two thousand of years. As a result, the texts of Confucian classics had always been the official listed textbooks.
