At the present situation where the art market is undergoing a rapid development, collecting contemporary art has been one of the major trends driven by avid art collectors vision and preference for the art form. The ARTnews 200 world's top collector list, has made a summarized and analyzed reports on the art market and art collectors annually. Reflecting the changes and the transformation of taste on the art collectors in the international art market. This paper has chosen The ARTnews 200 world's collector list as the starting point for us to explore and understand the forces that shapes the transformation and development of the art collector's market. Thus, in addition to providing a new perspective of study method, we also strive to understand the movement and direction of the international art market and makes up for the shortage of domestic research in this area.This paper uses several approaches, using classification method, comparative analysis, statistics, case studies, and art management studies as the base of analysis. This flexible and interdisciplinary study method ensures a comprehensive and in-depth review on the subject of contemporary art collecting. Finally, more than just understanding the art collections from the 1970s till the contemporary art era, we would also be able to appreciate the style range within contemporary art collections, get an insight on the idea, motives and strategy behind the collections, the main driving reasons for the collections, the dilemma and growth direction of contemporary art collecting. At the same time, this paper would also contribute to enriching our domestic knowledge on the study of contemporary art collecting.
