The modern woodcut movement of China developed a new field of realism works in Chinese modern art. It appeared with a whole-new face and played a special role in the art history. Created by Li Hua, Modern Woodcut Research Society is the most influential print creative community with greatest achieves in the history of China modern woodcut movement. The activities of Modern Woodcut Research Society from its beginning in 1934 to its end in 1937 played a decisive role in the development of China modern woodcut prints. Modern Prints acted not only as an important carrier of the research achievements of Modern Woodcut Research Society, but also an important component of the activities of Modern Woodcut Research Society.The publication of Modern Prints reflects a multi threaded relationships between Lu Xun and Li Hua; a modern wood engraving and the national community; as well as print creation and dissemination. The research on the contents and characters of Modern Prints is helpful to the further study on the conditions by which the emerging woodcut movement could be an important part of China New Art Movement. Modern Prints carried the task of "art for society" in the early emerging woodcut prints in China, which to some extent granted modern significances to the early creation of prints in China.This article studied the only existing copy of Modern Prints (18 issues altogether) collected in Shanghai Lu Xun Museum, analyzed the features of early new print movement as well as the "left-wing art thought", discussed the core spirit of collective creation of prints focusing its background, analyzing content ,styles and spirit Connotation. Meanwhile combined with Lu Xun's guide on the new prints and Modern Prints, using the method of text analysis, and discussed the historical value and important significances of Modern Prints and early woodcut prints in art history and cultural history on the basis of history factors.
