The cultural exchange between China and western countries started from the sixth or seventh century B.C.It became more frequent subsequently.In the sixteenth century, western missionaries came to China,which was a prologue to western painting's spreading in China.Due to the independence of Chinese traditional culture and the long-time close-door policy,western paintings had little effect upon Chinese traditional paintings,which demonstrates our people's passivity in accepting western paintings. Chinese began to actively study western paintings in the overseas education movement rising at the beginning of the twentieth century.Afterward,many students who received education overseas came back to China.They founded art schools,established art journals,changed the traditional art education models,introduced the western concepts of paining and thereby lead to a revolution in Chinese painting.It has been a thousand years history since Western Painting was introduced to China.Until now,it still affected the development of Chinese Painting directly or indirectly.In this paper, the writer analyzes the history course of the introduction of Western Painting.So that can tell what kind of role that the Western Painting plays in the development and innovation of traditional Chinese figure painting.Among them,it treated the representative of traditional Chinese figure painting Ren Bonian,Xu Beihong as an example,treated their personal artistic career and artistic ideas as a reference.Then,it began to explore the discussion and have research on what kind of innovation had taken place on Chinese traditional painting with the influence of Western Painting.At the same time,there are still some comparison and understanding in this paper which were concluded by the write through the study on Chinese Painting.
