The prehistoric sites in China have faced challenges on interpreting the artifacts to public, while the traditional experts-oriented interpretations can not make connections between the site conservation, the artifacts exhibition and the public access to the site information. This thesis examines the conservation and interpretation works of prehistoric sites in China and defines the significance of archaeological interpretation for public education. On the basis of the public archaeology theory in the west, the assay discusses the regional site interpretation mechanism. With a further study on the Kuahuqiao Site Museum interpretation project, the thesis analyses the mechanics of interpreting sites information as important public education resources. The thesis argues that as one of the archaeology academic areas, the information interpretation mechanics must be built in the process of site planning, excavation, conservation and public education. The archaeological interpretation is not only a crucial step to make the site accessible to public, but also the further request for archaeologists to improve their professional studies.
