College Chinese is a course that teaches college students the mother tongue It can improve their language proficiency and cultural cultivation as well as national pride and self-confidence. College Chinese is important both for individuals and society. In recent years, however, College Chinese is neglected and ignored. You can see such words about College Chinese on Journal of Higher Education Research as"Aphasia","disgrace","embarrassment"and"the edge". What is wrong with College Chinese? Why is this so? What should we do? This paper will make some deep reflection regarding to these questions.This paper is divided into three chapters.Chapter One consists of three parts. Part one is about the process of development of College Chinese curriculum. College Chinese curriculum is established in 1942 and the invalidated of in 1952 due to the adjust to national higher education. The College Chinese Curriculum opened again in 1978. The College Chinese Curriculum is cancelled nearly in 1989. The second section is the important meaning of The College Chinese Curriculum. This paper explains the important meaning of The College Chinese Curriculum from three aspects: Language accomplishment,Process and method,Humanities education. The third section, The goal of The College Chinese Curriculum,The nature of The College Chinese Curriculum , The type of The College Chinese Curriculum.The second chapter is"the present situation of The College Chinese Curriculum". The author has made the investigation to the College Chinese present situation. This chapter has given the explanation about the sample choice, the investigation content, the research step, survey result.The third chapter is"the reason and the countermeasure". The first section, Reaching the deep reason. It elaborated the reason that The College Chinese Curriculum is neglected from three aspects: University regards the specialty,the losing of Humane spirit,Western culture pressure. The second section is the positive measures. We must establishes The College Chinese Curriculum for the required course. We must improve the teacher quality. We must reform the teaching content and the teaching method, and so on.The conclusion of the paper looks forward to the prosperous future of College Chinese Curriculum---having a reasonable and legal status in our higher education, attracting the deserved attention and exerting its important function.
