With the deepening of curriculum reform in China and the implementation of new curriculum standards,English curriculum in secondary vocational schools should feature both instrument and humanity.The teaching activities should aims at all-around development of students.Therefore,adding environmental education to English teaching can effectively raise the environmental and ecological awareness of English students,which can further improve their comprehensive strength.This is also beneficial to expand the connotation of English education in secondary vocational schools.Meanwhile,as the rapid growth of modern economy,the development at the cost of environment can not meet the progressive needs of modern society.Education is characterized by environment and ecology.Compared with other curriculum,English should have a broader international vision.Therefore,it is imperative to include environmental education in English curriculum.However,the current situation shows that the environmental content is lacking in English curriculum and the attention to environment issues falls short.This further affects the cultivation of environment and ecological awareness of students and has a negative impact on their comprehensive strength.Based on the related previous studies which are about English curriculum and environmental education,this article summarized the previous research,and investigated the current situation of environmental education in secondary vocational school English curriculum.Specifically,the research questions are as follows: 1)Is environmental education shown in English teaching documents and textbooks for secondary vocational schools? 2)Does the college entrance examination specially designed for secondary vocational schools involve environmental education topics? 3)What is the current situation of secondary vocational school English teachers' and students' perception and practice of environmental education? 4)What measures can ben taken to optimize the content of and approach to environmental education in secondary school English curriculum ?To collect the data for the research,the author distributed questionnaires to the teachers and students from six secondary vocational schools in Sichuan Province,observed the classes of two English teachers and interviewed six teachers as well as ten students.Besides,the teaching materials analyzed involve Secondary Vocational English Syllabus,English textbooks and college entrance examination papers.Also,statistical analyses were conducted with Excel and an online data analysis tool named SPSSAU.The results are summarized as follows:First,Secondary Vocational English Syllabus is obscure about the targets of environmental education in English teaching and learning.Second,English textbooks investigated do not have sufficient environmental education contents.The environmental education contents only exist in listening,reading and writing sections,not in speaking,vocabulary and grammar sections.Third,college entrance examination papers have a big proportion about environmental education,with varied test items and adequate content about environmental education.Fourth,the investigation,interview and classroom observation of teachers and students show the situation of English teachers' and students' perception and practice of environmental education,that is,both teachers' and students' perception are better than their practice.Based on the above results,the author offers some practical suggestions from the following aspects: Secondary Vocational English Syllabus,English textbooks,secondary school English teachers and their teaching,secondary school English students and their study,with the hope that those suggestions may help to improve the current situation of environmental education in secondary school English curriculum.
