South Korean Christian Overseas Missionary Influence On South Korea's Foreign Relations

According to the South Korea World Missions Association(KWMA)'s statistics,by the end of last year,560 groups of 1.6616 million Christian missionaries were actively acting on 173 countries and regions.This has put South Korea second in the world right after the United States which ranked in a first place.With the enthusiasm,voluntary and sacrifice of Christians is concerned,Koreans are considered to be the first in the world.After the 2007 hostage crisis in Afghanistan,the South Korea Christian missionary movements has affected in the domestic community but it has affected in the international community also where Koreas had to faced with serious challenge.Although the religious motive is just abroad as a non-governmental factors to carry out missionary movement,but regardless of willing or not,their problems spread out to the world.In this way,the hostage crisis in Afghanistan has become worth to explore what the reasons arc to the several parts:First of all,the hostage crisis all of a sudden became a issue of the international community. The world's Christian community,foreign governments,international non-governmental organizations and also international media are concerned about this incident.Secondly,when South Korean government find countermeasures programs,rather than a separate attempt to resolve the hostage crisis,South Korea exchanged point of vies with the United States,Afghanistan and Islamic countries.They should have direct consultation,cooperation to work together to solve the kidnapping problem.Especially after this incident,the South Korean government's foreign relations have readjusted change.As a result of the hostage crisis in the settlement process,the South Korean government views conflicted with the United State government,on the contrary,when Government asked to a number of Islamic countries, Asian countries and the Islamic religious community for help,in fact,they could get a great help from them.So the South Korean government will change their foreign policy and foreign relations.For example,because of the hostage crisis in Afghanistan,not just a Korean Society but also a international community on the legality of sending troops overseas has become a reconsider issue,this means that South Korea's Foreign policy has been changed.Thirdly,although the problem was occurring in oversea,it had a big effect on domestic society.For example,a dispute between Christians and non-Christian and with in the churches can not be unified position on their own.Motivated by the hostage crisis,the fiction between the Christian and the non-Christians has been exposed.In conclusion,the South Korean Missionary movement will need to change two aspects,one is transfer the traditional missionarv model to a multiculturalism and the evangelize globalization model,another one is to relate international religious non-governmental organization,through the co-operation with international organizations needs to support the international community.Finally,the relationship between the Korean Church and the government will change. Originally two sides have been maintained a close relationship.However,after the hostage crisis in Afghanistan,not only the church and the government needs a change of their own,but also a relation between the two sides have been adjusted.For example,in accordance with the new passport act,the overseas missionary movement of Christianity will be constrained,this is currently a breakthrough with emphasis on the Korean missionary movement in the Church will be in a conflict,which will lead to the close relationship between the two sides,will be adversely affected.
