The Continuity Of English And Chinese Texts Of Cognitive Research

Text analysis is inevitably directed to the form and process of language use. Coherence, which is regarded as one term in the field of text coherence, is one of the most important characteristics of text. This article, which is based on the history of text and text coherence, expounds the significance of construction in text coherence from the perspective of cognitive linguistics. Because text coherence is a kind of language phenomenon involved in semantics, pragmatics and cognitions, it is deficient depending on previous elaboration from the semantic angle. This article mainly takes advantage of the three theories of cognitive linguistics as the theoretical frames: blending space theory; metaphor theory and relevance theory. The author expounds the communicative process of discourse and how the coherent meaning in text analysis is constructed. The three cognitive theories have proclaimed cognitive mechanism in natural language meaning and understanding process, which has provided the theoretical bases for dynamic research on text coherence. I Hope this thesis can be of some help to the research on text coherence from a new angle.
