With supplementary charts, this essay presents a general discussion on Gaogouli's tomb mural paintings, focusing on the cultural background of its formation, the shapes and meanings of murals, and its styles and trends.The first chapter introduces the origin and development of Gaoguoli people, and the historical and cultural backgrounds of the formation of tomb mural paintings. From the territorial point of view , two cultural centers of Han Dynasty, one in the north of Gaogouli (Liaodong County and Xuantu County) and the other in the south (Lelang County and Daifang County), have decisive influence on the formation of the mural paintings.The second chapter describes the features and cultural origins of tomb mural paintings at the same period as that of Gaogouli. From the time point of view, such description lays a foundation for further discussing the styles and trends of Gougouli's mural paintings.In the third chapter, the author discusses the highly informative shapes and meanings of Gaogouli's tomb mural paintings, and reveals the historical appearance at Gaogouli's period from the paintings concerning reality, religion and decoration.The fourth chapter illustrates the necessity for the emergence of the paintings' styles under certain historical factor according to the styles and characteristics reflected in Gaogouli's tomb mural paintings, and focuses on the influence of central China's art trends on the styles and trends of Gaogouli's tomb mural paintings.Currently, the tomb mural painting of Gaogouli is only studied from some specific field by the academic circles, but any significant and comprehensive study is yet to be done. So this essay focuses on discussing and studying the tomb murals through some new methods.
