Zhang Jie is a unique female writer in the contemporary Chinese literary circle. She has created plenty of works, and her style of writing always keeps transforming, which aroused much controversy. At the end of 20 century, Zhang Jie published her novel No Words, which is dignified, magnificent, and meaningful. This novel has landmark significance in her writing experiences, and certainly becomes a focus. In the thesis, by poring over No Words we try to discuss Zhang Jie and her whole thought about writing, to analyse Spiritual Connotation, to reveal her thought on human nature, fate, nation history and to experience the reconsideration and the Questing Consciousness.This thesis include three parts, introduction, text and conclusion. In the introductory part, we discuss the studying significance, the studying situation and the studying methods.The text consist of four parts:First, from a historical perspective, we comb in detail the images of traditional mothers, which were motherly and gentle, and also were Messiah of their suffering children. In the contemporary Chinese literary circle, the consciousness of examining mother in Zhang Ailing's and Tie Ning's works, in which, most of mothers were bad ones. By comparison, we can find out that Zhang Jie felt with mothers'sufferings and she was also angry at their indifference.Secondly, we analyse her Chinese-style Electra complex from her own history/background; and study the types of ideal fathers in the novel. The crown on heads of fathers doesn't remain shining because of real life and the disillusionment disappointed Zhang Jie. She criticized men furiously in deconstructive way, by using No Words as a literature case.Thirdly, we discuss individual self-consciousness in Zhang Jie's work. We take Wu as the case to analyse her consciousness of self-examination and study what caused tragic fates of this type of female intellectual like Wu. Meanwhile, we also analyse another type of female characters, which attach themselves to men, and examine their female consciousness. From individual to group, to mankind, Zhang Jie always paid close attention to human existence and considered the culture and the history which made human being's tragic fate.Lastly, Wu's ultimate goal of examinating parents and herself was to quest for spiritual home for human being and the root of soul, but the death of her mother and her rootless family disappointed her: Wu was so disappointed at the result of quest and real world and the history and the culture that she only can put her faith in her mysterious and unknown plain or the disappeared empire. Nonetheless, questioning life and existence is the eternal theme of human being.In the last past, by analysing No Words, we find out that Zhang Jie has always been pondering over human being in her works, that she had deep consciousness of examination and kept questioning the hard living situation of human being, that she hoped to find the place where the soul could settle down and be in a natural and original state.
