Because of its flexible characteristics of writing, cursive script calligraphy has been the best style to reflect the character and the mood of the calligrapher, and the wild calligraphy is particularly prominent. In the past few years, however, the works appeared in the important exhibitions of calligraphy showing that the contemporary cursive calligraphy creation has the tendency to be artificial, to imitate the style deliberately, and to be identical in form. The main cause is the misunderstanding of how to grasp the character and the mood of the calligrapher and how to understand the conception of "Character and Mood First". This paper aims at how to analyze the connotation of the calligrapher's character and mood and how to show and grasp it in the cursive calligraphy works, discussing the importance and necessity of showing character and mood in the creations of wild calligraphy spontaneously. |
