Chinese calligraphy and Arabic calligraphy are not only the treasures of their respective cultures but also the great contributions made by the two major peoples of China and Arab to the enrichment of the world culture.A comparative study of the different social functions of Chinese and Arabic calligraphy also contributes to a better understanding of the different socio-political forms behind this difference.The purpose of this thesis is to study the social function of Chinese and Arabic calligraphy,and to find out the similarities and differences between the two kinds of calligraphy in social function(political,religious,cultural,aesthetic function),so as to make it easier for Chinese and Arab students to learn each other's calligraphy.This paper probes into the historical situation of Chinese and Arabic calligraphy,The position of calligraphy in the contemporary Chinese and Arab social culture includes the status of calligraphers in contemporary Chinese and Arab society,the cultural activities in contemporary Chinese and Arab societies,the reasons for the decline of calligraphy in contemporary Arab society,and the value of calligraphy in daily life of society,the social function of contemporary Chinese calligraphy,including political function,religious function and cultural function,and finally discusses the social value of the aesthetic of Chinese and Arabic calligraphy,which discusses the different aesthetic characteristics of China's calligraphy and Arabic calligraphy.And how these characteristics can achieve their social function.By studying and comparing Chinese and Arabic calligraphy art,we will deepen our understanding of the art of calligraphy and recognize its inseparable connection with society,religion,and culture,and few people in China or the Arab world are involved in this research topic,so this study can play a role as a catalyst.
