About Five Animals Coat Color Name

The present thesis is based on the field work completed in the area of the Chakhar local dialect of Mongolian. The method used in the thesis belongs to the framework of descriptive linguistics. Making a classification on the wool-hair colours of the five breeds of domestic animals, the thesis analyzes the general features of the wool-hair colours of the five breeds of domestic animals. At the same time, basic elements of names for wool-hair colours of the five breeds of domestic animals, and structural and grammatical features of the names are also analyzed.Chapter One includes contents such as classification, general features and changes of the wool-hair colours of domestic animals.Chapter Two first classifies the basic elements of the names for wool-hair colours of the five breeds of domestic animals into 2 groups: qualitative adjectives and relational adjectives, and meanings, sounds, and use domains of the names are outlined in this chapter.Based on the structural criterion, Chapter Three classifies the names into 2 groups: simple words and compound words (including those formed with simple words and double compound words). Phrasal structures and syntactic relations of the names are also illustrated.Chapter Four is grammatical analysis of the names for wool-hair colours of the five breeds of domestic animals. Besides the general adjectival features of the names, some peculiarities such as categories of gender and comparison of the names, as well as nominal use of the adjectives are introduced.The last part is a brief summary of the contents written in the thesis.
