Primary English teaching is enlightenment teaching in the field of foreign languages teaching. It plays an important role in the development of students' learning. In order to achieve the objective of enlightenment teaching, teachers should not only understand children's English learning features and psychological characteristics, but also grasp emotional teaching psychology and related language learning theory. Moreover, teachers need to be clear about the trend of primary English teaching. Primary English teaching has been paid much attention in our country in recent years. It has entered a fast development period and has made some effects. But after the implementation of new curriculum, the focus of attention in classroom teaching has changed greatly. Besides, there emerge some problems in primary English teaching, such as game program more than learning content, too much listening and speaking, while less of reading and writing.Among the numerous theories of second language acquisition, American famous linguist and psycholinguists Stephen D Krashen proposed the Monitor Model in the 1970s, which "may be the most all-sided and acceptable theory nowadays."(Rod Ellis: 1986, p261, ELT, 1981). "Krashen's Monitor Theory" makes a difference between acquisition and learning in the process of development and applications of second language and foreign language. His Comprehensible Input Hypothesis produced a great impact on the field of language teaching. Gass and Selinker said Krashen's each hypothesis had greatly promoted second language acquisition research. The Monitor Model Theory has an extremely important realistic guiding significance to improve the quality of primary English teaching and to drive the foreign language teachers and researchers to investigate the foreign language teaching deeply in China. Regarding to the main problems in primary English teaching and children's characteristics of the psychological development and language learning, this paper investigates deeply the significances of Krashen's Monitor Theory in primary English teaching. There are four chapters in the paper. At the beginning, the paper introduces the cause and methodology of this research, and makes clear of the concept of the Monitor Model Theory, the first language, the second language, mother tongue and foreign languages and the relationship between them. Next it is going to do some systematical discussion and analysis about the Monitor Model Theory, which is aiming at helping the readers have an overall comprehension on the Theory. Third, the emphases are placed on the enlightenment from Krashen's five hypotheses to primary English teaching in China, considering the main problems in primary English teaching and children's characteristics of the psychological development and language learning. At last but not the least, the paper investigates the actual meaning of the Monitor Model Theory in primary English teaching in order to promote teaching effect.
