The Hellenistic Age is a great era of cultural exchange and fusion for the first time in human history, with the significance of inheriting the past and giving enlightenment to the following generation in the history of world culture development. At that moment, as the world culture center of the Mediterranean, she has already been school of Hellenistic world instead of school of Greek . From the perspective of culture history and city history, this paper analyzes the establishment of Alexandria and how it becomes the world culture center of the Mediterranean; it unveils the mystery of the cultural exchange and fusion between various ancient ethnic groups in the so-called melting pot of Alexandria. it illustrates the historical position of Alexandria in the history of human culture development and the role of city in the process of hellenization.The paper is divided into two parts: introduction and main body. The introduction mainly presents the research state of culture exchange and Alexandrian city in Hellenistic Age. The body consists of three chapters. The first chapter begins with the emergence of Hellenistic Age and then illustrates the establishment of Alexandria, the culture exchange of Alexandria as exchange center of oriental and western culture, and the reason for her central position. It also discusses about the historical background of establishment of the Museum and Library of Alexandria, and points out that their establishment is not only a simple academic activity but also has an extensive political significance. The second chapter mainly expounds the residential structure of Alexandrian city as the melting pot of ancient world nation, as well as the interaction, exchange and fusion between Greek culture and Egypt, Greek culture and Jewish culture. The third chapter gives an in-depth study of the historical position of Alexandrian city and the role of city in the process of hellenization, then conclude that city plays the role of bridge and bond in connecting Eastern culture and Greek culture.
