Hellenistic Rhodes was one of the wealthiest and "well-governed" poleis in the world. While many Greek city-states were subject to the Hellenistic kingship,Rhodes were able to stand alone for more than a hundred years, with their "neutral"and non-aligned foreign policy. She was an object of competition between the dynasts and kings,as each sought to win over her friendship. Also, she became the mediator of conflicts between the parties, trying to maintain the international"balance of power",which was a "miracle"in the history of diplomacy.Until the second century B.C.,her"neutral"policy declared bankruptcy because of her alliance with Rome. This paper aims to discuss the development and evolution of Rhodian"neutral"foreign policy in the Hellenistic world by analyzing the diplomacy between Rhodes and the Hellenistic Kingdoms and Rome, and then analyzes the internal logic and reasons of her foreign policy. The full text is divided into eight parts, which are Introduction,Rhodes before 323 B.C.,Rhodes and war of Diadochi,Rhodes and Macedon,Rhodes and Ptolemaic Kingdom,Rhodes and Seleucid Kingdom,Rhodes and Rome and the Conclusion. The introduction mainly introduces the significance of the topic and related trends of the research. The first chapter gives a brief overview of the history of Rhodes in pre-Hellenistic Age.The second to the sixth chapter respectively discusses the diplomatic relation between Rhodes and the kingdoms of the Hellenistic period, and analyzes the features of Rhodian diplomacy during the Hellenistic period, which reflect the evolution and the pattern of the international political landscape of the Mediterranean world at that period.
